Dr. Lim completed her B.S. in Pharmacy at Purdue University in 1987. After working as a retail pharmacist, she commited to research and received her PhD in Pharmaceutics (Biopharmaceutical Sciences) and Pharmaceutical Chemistry in 1996 from University of California, San Francisco. She investigated the biological activity of DNA dumbbells under the direction of  C. Anthony Hunt and collaborator B. M. Peterlin (HHMI), M. Garovoy (Immunogenetics). After completing her doctoral studies, she trained as a Post-Doc with Dr. Gordon L. Hager in the Laboratory of Receptor Biology and Gene Expression at the National Cancer Institute (NIH).

In 2000 Dr. Lim began her appointment as an Assistant Professor at the University of Utah in the Department of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Chemistry. She was  tenured as an Associate Professor in 2008.
